Tips for Keeping Mosquitoes at Bay
The one thing that can spoil a pleasant evening sitting in the garden or having a Barbie in the cool of the evening is those wretched mozzies. Before you know it they have landed and taken their share of blood from your veins, leaving you with an unpleasant itch and the hope that you won’t be infected with Ross River fever.
Mosquito control in necessary in most areas if we are to safely enjoy the outdoors. This can be in the form of a mosquito repellent that is rubbed on the skin, but the trouble is you don’t always know when the children are going to run outside. They can be gone before you realise.
Installing an insect zapper is the next best thing, especially for the patio where you tend to gather with friends and family. An insect zapper will also take care of other annoying pests such as midges. And hopefully, they will not have bitten you first. Be sure to place it where the fallen insects can easily be swept off the following morning.
You can also light a citronella candle or two for mosquito pest control, but while these are good for the veranda, they do have a smaller range of protection. When the kids are playing hide and seek in the dusky garden, they will not prevent bites. Nor are they for windy conditions.
You might find that mosquito traps that actually lure mosquitoes in with an Octenol attractant and kill them are the best devices for protection against mosquitoes. These work with electricity, but if you don’t want to be limited to the length of the 50 metre cord you can get the cordless type that uses propane to produce CO2. This acts like a mosquito magnet as it mimics human breath – which mosquitoes are attracted to.
These types of mosquito traps attract many different types of mosquito, so you’ll be safe from bites no matter which type is in your district. For more details visit our website www.mosquitomanagers.com.au

Mosquito MAGNET.?
Ahh, it's that lovely time of year again, the sun is shining, the ocean is glistening, and I am being attacked by mosquitos. Does anyone know if A) certain blood types are more prone to getting attacked by mosquitos (or any certain type of people) or B) Any good ways (other than bug repellents such as Off) to protect yourself from these nasty critters? I swear, I have so many bites it looks like I've got the chicken pox. I can't be outside during the night without getting 5-9 new bites. PLEASE HELP!
As it goes for blood types, that is not the attractor. One who is perspiring or wearing flowery perfumes may attract more insects of this variety, though.
This may sound really stupid, but try placing a sheet of Bounce fabric softener in your belt loop if you are moving or in the general area outside where you are sitting. It supposedly repels mosquitos quite well.
